Dems Dueling on Cap and Trade

Published by Editor at 1:10 pm under General

The head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee recognizes the economic pains of Waxman-Markey and doesn’t want to sacrifice vulnerable House Dems to votes that are sure to result in higher energy bills and lost jobs.  According to The Politico, the tension came to a head last week as Waxman told DCCC Chairman Van Hollen that he didn’t like the dissent bubbling up over his cap and trade baby…not one bit.

In the run-up to the meeting, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) argued in several newspaper interviews that the House should move cautiously on a cap-and-trade bill if it doesn’t look like the Senate will approve it. Van Hollen doesn’t want vulnerable House Democrats — especially the freshmen under his care — to be forced to take difficult votes on the measure if it’s not going to pass anyway.

But Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, a 34-year veteran of the House who knocked off his longtime predecessor last fall to push an ambitious climate change bill, took umbrage with Van Hollen’s public stance during Thursday’s leadership meeting, people present said…

…most present saw the flare-up between Waxman and Van Hollen as the inevitable result of tension that had been building around the bill for months.

With friends like these…

It’s not really that surprising that there is some political caution, after all there are some costs associated with the legislation. But pointing that out doesn’t in any way make a case against cap-and-trade. It’s not an argument.

I am so sick of even the words Green, or Cap and Trade. The only warming of the earth is due to the Sun and other natural elements. I agree we should keep the earth as clean as we can, but to not allow oil drilling, and not to go get our own natural gas and coal is stupid. With off and on shore drilling oil and natural gas, and using clean coal tech, we could energy independent in not too many years. We have more resouces than anyone else in the world, but the leftist want to take America down. I wonder how it will feel for Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the others in encluding Waxman, to be know as the group of Politicians that took the United States of America down. I think they want it to be the USSA, United Socialist States of America! Not our country. I refuse to submit to their liberal, socialist, markist rule. No!!!! Let the market move on its own and we will come out ahead. Before you know it we would be building new refineries, nuclear power plants, Clean Coal plants, wind mill fields, natural gas could be changed to our gas of choice even for auto. Blocking everything like they have done for years will only take us farther down the road to distruction.
