This morning’s provocative session at the Heartland Institute’s conference on climate change included a rousing speech from Marc Morano, an aide to Sen. Jim Inhofe. Morano’s discussion focused on the consensus-busting questions from the scientific community and the potential policy disasters flowing from global warming alarmists. Some key quotes and arguments:

• He said that since 2006 “it’s absolutely astounding what has occurred” with the number of scientists who have come forward to debunk the claims of scientific consensus.
• The list of “650 scientists” who have spoken out against global warming alarmism grows by 2-3 a week, including some very prominent names. they come from “all over the world” and “across the board” they are being forced to speak out because of overly bold claims from the United Nations and Al Gore.
• NASA scientist and all-around alarmist James Hansen is “increasingly leaving the reservation”
• Morano points out that global warming alarmists are now pushing their predictions out 30 to 1,000 years because the actual climate isn’t following the dire computer model predictions
• Morano argued that the UN is a political body and that if someone uses it as scientific evidence of manmade global warming “they are insulting your intelligence”
• He made an interesting comparison between the current global warming alarmism rhetoric and that of the deforestation panic in the 1990’s, which he argues has subsequently been shown to have been far overblown
• Arguing that leaders need to “follow the science” on the issue
• He warns that the people most damaged by carbon-control schemes will be those in developing countries who will miss out on their version of the Industrial Revolution
