What Is It With The Green Fixation On Toilet Paper?

Published by Frosty the Know Man at 3:54 pm under General

How do you get a story written about how green and great you are? You either slash your trash output, or you keep it at home. That was the plan for Dave Chameides, a Los Angeles cameraman (we assume he also has a script he’s about finished with) who gets a profile by stowing nine months worth of his trash in his basement. Notwithstanding the probably health code violations, here’s this note:

For his scientific/social experiment Chameides keeps a running tally of his waste and documents it for all the world to see courtesy of his blog (365daysoftrash.blogspot.com). On July 26, for example, his waste stream included one toilet paper tube, two plastic food containers, one plastic vitamin-water bottle and two paper sugar packets. (Of those items, everything would be placed neatly into a pile of recyclables, except for the sugar packets, which went into his worm composting bin.)

Notice the mention on toilet paper tubes. Remember the big story on The Year Without Toilet Paper in the New York Times on the people who tried to go so green they dropped the TP?

What is going on here? There’s gotta be some sort of addendum to journalism rules, likely buried in the If It Bleeds It Leads section on bodily functions.

Um, don`t look now, but it seems that the fixation on toilet paper is entirely your own.

It sounds like some sort of mental illness, a variation of OCD, perhaps.
